Kerala state assembly on Thursday passes a resolution against the three farm laws brought by the Central Government during a one-hour special session.Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the Centre of Shirking its responsibilities towards the farmers,by allowing corporate takeovers of their land.
While moving the resolution demanding the immediate scrapping of the new laws,Vijayan said the country was now witnessing one of the most iconic protests ever by farmers in its history.
"At a time when the agricultural sector is facing a major critics, the Central government has introduced and passes three new laws in Parliament that will have a major impact on the agricultural sector",the Kerala CM said.
"All three farm laws will only help big corporate houses",Vijayan told the Assembly on Thursday.
The current situation in Kerala makes it clear that if this agitation continues,it will seriously affect Kerala. There is no doubt that Kerala will starve if the supply of food items from other states stops he added.
Vijayan called the farmers protest a legendary struggle.
"The farmers are joining the struggle and fighting in the extreme cold in Delhi.Thirty-two farmers lost their lives during the 35-day strike", Kerala CM said.
The Kerala Governor gave his nod for the special session on Monday, days after he turned down the Pinarayi Vijayan government's first proposal for the same.
"Farmers are worried that they will lose even the current support price for food grains",Vijayan told.
In many parts of the country, falling prices of agricultural products and farmer suicides have become major social problems. In this situation the government should announce minimum support price for more produce and take steps to make agriculture profitable,Kerala CM said.
"Legislative assemblies have the moral responsibility to take serious view when people have anxieties about certain laws which affect their lives",he said, adding agriculture was part of the culture of the country.
Earlier in October,Punjab Chief Minister had presented a draft resolution in the state assembly against the Centre's farm laws with an appeal to all parties to rise above political interests in the spirit of saving the state.
