BIG BREAKING NEWS! Supreme Court stays implementation of three farm laws until further order, SC has also decided to form a committee to told talks
The Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 12) stayed the implementation of three farm laws until further orders and decided that it will form a committee to resolve the current stand-off over the farmer protests. The committee will be part of judicial proceedings. "We believe in the Committee and we are going to constitute it. This Committee will be the part of judicial proceedings", CJI Bobde told the Attorney General.

A bench, which was headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, justice AS Bopanna and justice V Ramasubramanium pronounced the order.
Before pronouncing the order, the bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde commenced the hearing and urged the farmers' unions to cooperate and go before the committee to be appointed by it to resolve the dispute. "We are concerned about protecting the lives and property of citizens of India, we want to solve the problem", said the bench.
Hundreds of agitating farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, are protesting on Delhi's borders since November 26.
The apex court also issued notice on the application filed by Delhi police seeking to stop farmers from entering the national capital to hold a tractor rally on the Republic Day.
In the proceeding conducted through video conferencing, it said no power can prevent us from making the committee to resolve the issue on new farm laws. It reiterated the apex court has powers to suspend the legislation in order to solve the problem. The bench said those who "genuinely want resolution, will go to the committee" on farm laws.
Responding to the news that farmers had decided to not appear before the Committee, CJI Bobde said, "We don't want to hear an argument that farmers will not go to the committee. We are looking to solve the problem. If you want to agitate indefinitely, you can".
"This is not politics. There is a difference between politics and judiciary and you will have to cooperate", said SC to farmer unions, reported PTI.
The SC has also received an application alleging that a banned organization is extending support to the agitating farmers. When court asked the Attorney General about it, he told the bench that 'Khalistanis' have infiltrated into the ongoing farmers' protest to which the bench asked him to file an affidavit in this regard. the top law officer said that he will do so by Wednesday.
However, protesting farmers say that they won't accept the resolution by the Committee set up by the Supreme Court. They said their protests will continue and they will have tractor parade on January 26. Farmer leader say that protests will continue even after January 26.
Farmer leader have said that they would not call off their protest until the legislations are repealed. The Sankyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of around 40 protesting farmer unuions, has called a meeting later in the day to decide the next course of action.
The farmer leaders said that they are not willing to participate in any proceedings before a committee appointed by the Supreme Court, but a formal decision on this will be taken by the Morcha. "We welcome the court's order to stay the implementation of the farm laws, but we want a complete repeal of these laws, which is our main demand", Abhimanyu Kohar, a senior leader of the Morcha said the protest will continue until the three farm laws are repealed. "We do not have faith in the idea of a committee and we have been saying since the very beginning, when the government had suggested the formation of a committee. But this time, it is Supreme Court and we will see the functioning of this committee", All India Kisan Sabha (Punjab) vice-president Lakhbir Singh said.
The Morcha had issued a statement yesterday saying the unions are not willing to participate in any proceedings before a committee that may be appointed by the top court.
Bhartiya Kisan Union (Punjab) vice- president Manjeet Singh said PTI, "We welcome the Supreme Court's decision but it is still a stay and not a repeal of the three laws. So we will not move from here until the laws are repealed. the agitation will continue. we are against the idea of a committee, but there is a difference between a committee formed by the government and a committee formed by the Supreme Court.We had said yesterday itself that we won't appear before any such committee. Our agitation will go on as usual.
