The number of people who have tested positive for the UK variant of COVID-19 in India has risen to 165, the Union Health Ministry said.
The government has also extended the restrictions on flight between India and UK till February 14.
Of the total 165 cases, the mutated UK strain was detected in the samples of 42 people at National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in New Delhi and 51 in the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) in Delhi, five in the National Centre for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, 44 in the National Institute of Virology in Pune, eight in the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad, 14 in National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences Hospital (NIMHANS) Bengaluru and one in the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani (near Kolkata).
All these people were kept in single room isolation in
designated healthcare facilities by respective state governments. Their close
contacts have also been put in quarantine and comprehensive contact tracing has
been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others.
Today is the 311th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. So,far ,India's Covid-19 tally increased to 1,07,20,048 with 18,855 new cases in past 24 hours, while the recoveries surged to 1,03,94,352 pushing the national recovery rate to 96.96 per cent.
Moreover, the death toll increased to 1,54,010with 163 new fatalities in past 24 hours. The fatality rate of the country stands at 1.44 per cent.
The active caseload of the country stands at 1,71,686. The share of the active cases in the total cases has further shrunk to 1.60 per cent.

Globally, more than 10 crore people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 21.88 lakh have died so far. Many countries, including India, have granted emergency use authorization for COVID-19 vaccines and have started vaccinating healthcare workers and high-risk groups.
The Drugs Controller General Of India (DCGI) has granted restricted emergency use approval for two vaccines -- Covishield and Covaxin on January 3.
More than 33 lakh Healthcare Workers Vaccinated across the country, 4,40,681 beneficiaries vaccinated till 7 pm today the union health ministry said on Friday.
