Government Warns 4 States Over Rising Covid-19 Cases Says 'Maintain Strict Vigil'

 The Union Health Ministry has written to Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal urging them to take steps to curb spikes in COVID-19 cases. These four states account for 59 per cent of all active cases in the country, the Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhusan, said in his letter.



The States have been advised to maintain a 'strict vigil' and take steps to keep a check on the rising cases, especially in view of new strain of the virus being observed in certain countries which has also been reported in a few States in India.

This comes on a day when India reported 20,346 new COVID-19 cases, 19,587 discharges, and 222 deaths, as per Union Health Ministry. 

As on January 8,2021 the total infection tally in India stands at 1,04,14,044, while the active cases are at 2,22,416. The death toll in India due to COVID-19 is 1,50,606 while as many as 1,00,36,722 people have recovered from the virus.

Kerala has seen an average of over 5,000 new cases per day in the past week. Maharashtra has seen over 3,700 in the same period, while Chhattisgarh saw an average of 1,006 and Bengal 908.

The total COVID-19 cases in Kerala are 7,95,934 which form 7.61 per cent of the total cases. The active cases are 64,447 (comprising 28.61 per cent of the total national figure). Total number of Recovered cases is 7,28,059 (i.e. 91.34 per cent) while total deaths in the State are 3,235 (fatality rate is 0.41 per cent).

Total cases in Maharashtra stand at 19,58,282 i.e. nearly 18.80 per cent of the national figure. 18,56,109 patients have recovered in the state taking their recovery rate to 94.79 per cent. The active cases are 51,111 (22.79 per cent of national figure). The death toll in the State stands at 49,897 and the fatality rate is 2.55 per cent.

Chhattisgarh has registered 2,86,596 total cases which is 2.75 per cent of the national figure and 2,74,283 patients have recovered taking the recovery rate of the state to 95.60 per cent. The active cases in the state are 8,859 which 3.99 per cent of the national figure. The number of fatalities in the state is 3,454 and the case fatality rate is 1.21 per cent.

West Bengal is reporting 5,58,173 total cases which is 5.36 per cent of the national figure. 5,39,816 patients have recovered in the State taking the state recovery rate to 96.64 per cent. It has 8,476 active cases comprising 3.89 per cent of the national figure. There have been 9,881 total deaths in the state accounting for case fatality rate of 1.77 per cent.

GST Collection At All-Time High Since Its Implementation,almost touches Rs.1.20 lakh crore in January 2021

 On the eve of Union Budget 2021, the GST revenue collected for the month of January 2021 has touched nearly Rs 1.20 lakh crore. The tax collection is higher than the December 2020 record, which witnessed an unexpected rise of 11.6 per cent. India Reports 2 More Fresh Cases Of New Strain Of Coronavirus, Total 116 Cases have Been Detected So Far

 The Union Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare announced on Saturday that a total of 116 persons have been detected positive with the new strain of Covid-19.
