Total 145 Cases Of New Strain Of Coronavirus Have Been Detected In India

 The Union Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare announced on Thursday that a total of 145 persons have been detected positive with the new strain of Covid-19.

All these people were kept in single room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by respective state governments. Their close contacts have also been put in quarantine and comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others.

Genome sequencing on other specimen is going on, the ministry said, adding the situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing and dispatch of sample to INSACOG labs, the ministry said.

The presence of new UK  variant of Covid-19 has already been reported by Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore.

Today is the 303rd day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India's Covid-19 tally increased to 1,06,10,883 with 15,223 new cases in past 24 hours, while the recoveries surged to 1,02,65,706  pushing the national recovery rate to 96.75 per cent.

 Moreover, the death toll increased to 1,52,869  with 151 new fatalities in past 24 hours. The fatality rate of the country stands at 1.44 per cent.

 The active caseload of the country stands at 1,92,308. The share of the active cases in the total cases has further shrunk to 1.81 per cent.

Till 6 pm on January 21, a total of 9,99,065 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for COVID-19 across the country, says Manohar Agnani, Additional Secretary, Union Health. Ten cases of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) — four in Delhi, two in Karnataka, and one each in Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and West Bengal — have required hospitalisation so far, additional secretary in the Health Ministry Manohar Agnani said. “There has been no case of serious/severe adverse event attributable to COVID-19 vaccination till date” ,Agnani said.

Meanwhile, India has started supplying Covid-19 vaccines to neighbouring countries. India is sending Covid-19 vaccines to Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, and Seychelles on Thursday. India on Thursday handed over 1 million doses of Covid-19 to Nepal under grant assistance in sync with its 'Neighbourhood First' policy.
