A 26-year-old Navy official who had been abducted in Chennai on January 30 was set on fire by unidentified persons in Palghar, Maharashtra.
According to Palghar Police, the Navy official has been identified as Suraj Kumar Dubey (27), a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand, who served at INS Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He was kidnapped from near the Chennai airport and taken to the jungles of Vevaji in Palghar.
The official was abducted near the Chennai airport, and a ransom of Rs 10 lakh was demanded.

As their demand remained unfulfilled, they set him ablaze said Palghar SP Dattatray Shinde.
Suraj Kumar Dubey, who hailed from Ranchi, was posted at INS Agrani near Coimbatore, said Palghar district police spokesperson Sachin Navadkar. As per the preliminary information, when he was returning from vacation on January 30, three men abducted him at gun point outside Chennai Airport around 9 pm and demanded ransom of Rs 10 lakh. He was detained at an undisclosed location in Chennai for three days. Later, he was brought to the forest in the western ghats of Vevji village in Talasari taluka near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border around 9 am on February 5.

by the kin of the Navy official,the abductors tied his hands and legs and set
him on fire in jungles near Gholvad, and fled leaving him for dead, police
said.
Dubey managed to run away and with the help of some locals, reached Dahanu Primary Health Centre. As he had more than 90 per cent burn injuries, after his condition deteriorated, he was moved to INS Ashwini where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under relevant sections against three unidentified persons and a probe has been initiated.
