West Bengal Reports First Case Of New Covid Strain

West Bengal has reported its first case of mutant coronavirus strain that was first found in United Kingdom,a senior health official said on Wednesday.

The patient is the son of a  senior official of the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital,tested positive for the mutant strain VUI-202012/01 after returning from London,the official said.

"The youth is undergoing treatment at the state-run hospital's super-specialty section.He is under observation.We have advised all those who have come in contact with him to isolate themselves",the official told PTI,adding that the new strain is believed to be significantly more transmissible.

The patient was under treatment at a government isolation facility in the city after being tested positive for Covid-19 at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport upon his return to Kolkata 10 days ago.

"The new strain of the coronavirus was detected during his genetic analysis.We have sent the report to Delhi-based National Centre for Disease Control",the official said.

The mutant strain VUI-202012/01(the first Variant Under Investigation in December 2020) is defined by a set of 17 changes or mutations.

More the 40 countries including India have banned travel to and from UK.

20 cases of the mutant coronavirus strain have so far been reported in India.

India becomes fastest country in world to complete over 6 million vaccination

 The world’s biggest inoculation drive began in India on January 16 with two indigenously-manufactured Covid-19 vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin. Even with exporting to needy nations and neighbouring regions, India managed to registered more than 1 million vaccinations within the first six days of the mega drive, becoming the fastest country to do so. GST Collection At All-Time High Since Its Implementation,almost touches Rs.1.20 lakh crore in January 2021

 On the eve of Union Budget 2021, the GST revenue collected for the month of January 2021 has touched nearly Rs 1.20 lakh crore. The tax collection is higher than the December 2020 record, which witnessed an unexpected rise of 11.6 per cent. This is the highest GST revenue the government has collected since the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax regime.
