"We have had two limited exercises, the first was only in four states and the second mostly in state capitals. From what I understand the exercise on 8 January will be countrywide, in every district where three to four session sites will do a dry run to test the feasibility of a simultaneous countrywide exercises", said a senior health official.

"At least three session sites in every district will be a part of the exercise. States will be told about the details tomorrow."

"The entire planning of the vaccination drive, including beneficiary registration, microplanning and vaccination at the planned session site, will be tested under the leadership of District Collector/ District Magistrate. The dry run will also familiarize the State, District, Block and Hospital level officers on all aspects of Covid-19 roll-out", a press statement by the health ministry said.

The statement added that the dry will be conducted across more than 700 districts in all states and Union Territories.

Each district will identify three types of session sites, similar to the previous dry run including a public health facility (District Hospital/Medical College), private health facility, and rural or urban outreach sites.

The Ministry said that around 1.7 lakh vaccinators and 3 lakh vaccinations team members have been trained on the process to be followed at the vaccination sites which include beneficiary verification, vaccination, cold chain & logistics management, bio-medical waste management, AEFI management, and reporting on CoWIN software.

The first vaccine dry run was held on 28 and 29 December in four states Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Punjab.

A second countrywide dry run was held in all state capitals on 2 January. The state governments were then asked to carry out a mock drill in at least three sites.
