Seventh Round Of Talks Between Protesting Farmers and Centre Fails To End Deadlock,Next Meeting On January 8
The seventh round of talks on farm laws between Kisan Unions and the Central government concluded at Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. The farm union leaders stuck to their demands of withdrawal of laws but the Centre remained firm on its stand and proposed a panel to take the matter forward. Next round of talks will take place on January 8 at 2 pm.
After the meeting Kisan leader Rakesh Tikait said,"We have told government, we will not return to our homes until the government repeals the laws".
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said after this meeting with farmers that,"We wanted to discuss three laws clause-wise.We could not reach any solutions as farmer union remained adamant on the repeal of the laws".Discussion took place on our demands -- repeal of the three laws and MSP... Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar further said that the government wants unions to raise specific issues in the three farm laws on which they have problems."Both sides need to make efforts to find a solution.hopeful of a solution on January 8.today's talks happened in cordial atmosphere,but unions stuck on one point",he added.We wanted farmer unions to discuss three laws clause-wise. After the conclusion of the meeting ,All India Kisan Sabha(AIKS) General Secretary Hannan Mollah said,"Government is under tremendous pressure.We all said that this is our demand(repeal of the laws).We don't want discussion on any other topic except on repeal of the laws.Protest will not be withdrawn until laws are repealed",
Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Yudhvir Singh said,"The minister wanted us to discuss the law point-wise.We rejected it and said that there is no point in discussing the laws because we want a complete rollback of the laws .Government intends to take us towards amendments but we will not accept it."Govt is under tremendous pressure. Kisan Union leader Balbir Singh Rajewal reiterated that the farmers will not agree to anything less than repeal of the three farm laws."We will discuss only Minimum Support Price (MSP) issue and repeal of laws.Government's ego problem coming in way of resolving issues",he said.The minister wanted us to discuss the law point-wise. As per ANI,West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that her government will pass anti-farmer bill resolution in the West Bengal Assembly.Earlier Kerala Assembly too had passed a resolution against the farm laws.
The farmer's protest at border points of New Delhi has entered the 40th day today.thousands of farmers,especially from Punjab and Haryana, are staging a sit-in protest along Delhi borders. The protest started on November 26.The farmers are demanding a complete rollback of the new farm reform laws and a guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
